Chagford 1

Kingskerswell and Chelston 3

KINGSKERSWELL deservedly went top of the table with a display that was sharper and stronger than most of what the home side had to offer. Chagford, occasionally, gave as good as they got but rarely opened up a solid defence.

Almost from the off, 'Kerswell pressed forward, and Saul Scarry in the Chagford goal pulled off a clutch of saves to prevent his team going behind early on.

However, there was little he could do to prevent the visitors scoring twice in as many minutes, midway through the half.

The first came from a penalty only just put away by Craig Duff, the second from Sean Adderly who rose unmarked to head home a well flighted corner. Chagford heads dropped a little and the loss of influential winger, Christian Crowther-Smith, did little to help the cause.

Reserve team skipper, Jon Philpott, came on at his customary full-back role; Chagford reshuffled and, after a few minutes found they could have a say in the match.

The second half was more evenly contested though neither team created too many clear opportunities.

Scarry was again called upon to save a couple of times but was unable to prevent substitute Keith Moon from scoring 'Kerswell's third, in the 70th minute.

Miller then saw a good effort saved by the visiting 'keeper but it fell to top scorer, Andrew Davis, to slot in a 73rd minute consolation for Chagford. This perked the team up and they finished the game in better fettle but unable to break through again.

• With just two matches left, Chagford should still be looking over their shoulders at the teams below that have games in hand. The first of these games is the last home match, this weekend to Brixham United who have championship hopes of their own.
