MORE than £7,000 was raised by two sprightly grandmothers from West Devon after they cycled from Paris to London in aid of charity.

Ros Wiggins and Marion Caudwell have more than tripled their original fundraising target from peddling 250-miles from one capital to the other.

The energetic pair, who have been friends for more than 40 years, will donate the money raised to Brain Tumour Research Campaign and Marie Curie Nurses.

Marion, from Tavistock, cycled in memory of her husband Sam, an active member of the Tavistock Lions Club who sadly died of motor neurone disease. She said she was thrilled to have raised money for Marie Curie Nurses because they were a great support to her and her husband.

Ros, from Lamerton, cycled in memory of her son Dan, who sadly lost his battle with a brain tumour 18-months ago at the age of 39.

Ros said she was ‘ever so thankful’ to all those who have helped her raise money for Brain Tumour Research Campaign.

From completing the challenging cycle the ladies have so far raised £7,000, however, donations are still coming in.

Ros and Marion completed their week-long challenge on Sunday, May 7 at Charing Cross Hospittal, London.

They celebrated with friends and family — some of whom cycled the final 18-miles of the journey.

‘It was absolutely brilliant,’ said Ros.

‘We cycled on roads, old rail tracks, through a forest — and even at one point we were worried we had got lost as the route had taken us through a field of yellow rape seeds!

‘Marion and I talked and laughed throughout the whole journey and we were very grateful to have my husband Rob on hand, in the camper van, supplying us with refreshments and endless cups of tea.

‘On the last day, some of our friends and family joined the cycle, including my nine-year-old grandson, Finley, who was so pleased to have raised £175 for Brain Tumour Research Campaign.

‘It was with great joy, and tears in our eyes, we crossed the finish line. It was very emotional but we were so thrilled to have so much support.

‘We would like to thank absolutely everyone who has donated and supported us!

‘We would also like to thank Marion’s daughter, Helen, who ran a blog while we were away. Also, thank you to everyone who sent us lovely messages and comments of encouragement on social media. We are so grateful to you all.’
