A CHARITY hog roast, barn dance and auction held recently in Tavistock raised £8,730 for Marie Curie Cancer Care and the Devon Air Ambulance.

The event was organised by Caroline and Nick Le Messurier, of Tavistock Holiday Cottages at Collaton, and was attended by around 140 people.

Local farmer Michael Doidge from Wilsetton Farm was the auctioneer.

Mrs Le Messurier expressed thanks to everyone who donated items for the auction, which included the hire of head chef of the Harris Arms at Portgate Ross Tregidgo for the night and a week's holiday at Porthleven, those who attended the event and generously bought items.

Two years ago the couple raised more than £5,000 for Marie Curie through a similar event.
