RURAL trails designed to boost tourism in the area between Hatherleigh and Holsworthy will be the subject of a Carlton TV programme being broadcast this weekend.
The Ruby Trails are a series of beautiful walks through well-signposted natural landscapes and have been pioneered by the Ruby Country Initiative.
They were filmed in July last year for the Way to Go programme which viewers can watch this Sunday.
Rosie Austin, Ruby Country project co-ordinator, said: ?We actually filmed the Tetcott trail, which includes the Tetcott estate and mill.
?To my amusement, we had to keep stopping because the background noise was too great ? nothing horrific, just your normal country sounds, tractors, dogs barking, planes overhead. The film crew were bemused by this noise ? the area was meant to be tranquil!
?They didn?t have enough time to do all the shots I would have loved to have done, but hopefully it will be enough to tempt some local visitors.?
Rosie said the Tetcott trail was a five-mile walk taking in ancient woodland where buzzards are often seen. It follows part of the River Tamar, where people may see brown hares.
?The routes are not just aimed at walkers either. Other trails will be created for cyclists and horse riders as well, in order to encourage as many people to use the trails as possible,? said Rosie.
The Ruby Country Initiative is a partnership between Devon Wildlife Trust, Torridge and West Devon district councils, the county council, Hatherleigh and Holsworthy Market and Coastal Towns Initiative and Leader +. It aims to encourage sustainable tourism in the Culm area, as well as highlighting the area?s unique wildlife, environment and rural culture.
Way to Go will be broadcast at 5.30pm on Sunday May 9.
