THE final piece of the renewable energy jigsaw at the Tamar Valley Centre at Drakewalls has been put in place with a £31,400 wind turbine project.
The visitors' centre already has a biomass boiler run by wood pellets and solar panels generating electricity and hot water. Now with the wind turbine all the energy needs are met on site.
EDF Energy's Green Fund contributed £14,200 towards the project which also received £15,700 from the Government's Low Carbon Buildings Programme and £1,500 from Cornwall Council, which owns the centre.
Pictured with the new wind turbine are, from left, Cornwall Councillor Russell Bartlett, Peter Sainsbury from Cornwall Council, Trevor Cotter, customer relations officer with EDF, Neil Burden, chairman of the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and Chris Hariades, environmental manager for Cornwall Council.
