PLYMOUTH Area Police Choir is coming to Tavistock on Friday, October 30 to give a concert in the Parish Church in aid of the Precious Lives Appeal and for church funds.
The choir will feature much of the music they have used at its grand concert in Plymouth and will include something for all tastes.
Guest soloist will be Rosemary Turner, music director of Vocal Harem and well known in Tavistock. She will be joined in two duets by bass-baritone Peter Bawden.
The choir, formed in 1972, now has 56 members, almost all of whom have held positions in the force, from constable to assistant chief constable.
Although they proudly wear the uniform of the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary, no service ribbons or badges of rank are worn — all are equal in song and comradeship.
In recent years the choir has sung in France, the Netherlands and Germany — at Tavistock's twin town Celle — also in Wiesbaden, singing to an audience of more than 3000 for the world congress of the International Police Association.
The choir has been invited to sing in Italy by The Association pro Musica Cantante Domino at the Grande Festival Chorale Verona Garda Estate at four concerts in Verona,Vicenza, Breacia and Lake Garda in July 2010.
Judy Pride from Children's Hospice said: 'We are really thrilled this choir is making a trip to Tavistock to help us with our appeal and I know it will be a special evening.'
The Rev Michael Brierley said: 'The reputation of the choir goes before them and we are honoured that they have chosen our two causes to support.'
The concert starts at 7.30pm,
This is a rare chance to hear this choir locally and tickets at £5 can be bought from Book Stop, Market Street; Children's Hospice Charity Shop West Street; The Parish Hall, Plymouth Road; or at the door for £6 on the night.
