OKEHAMPTON fire crews had a busy Tuesday when they were called out three times to deal with incidents in the town.

Three appliances were called to the Castle Hospital during the morning, when they dealt with a small fire in a ground floor ward. The fire was believed to have started in a fluorescent light fitting.

Firefighters were called to Okehampton College later in the day after smoke alarms were activated ? they also attended the college last Friday night when artificial smoke from disco equipment set the alarms off.

And the crew attended a car fire in Fore Street, Okehampton, during late afternoon, when a motorist?s vehicle burst into flames while he was driving through the town. Firefighters using a hose reel and breathing apparatus put out the fire and no-one was injured in the blaze, although a long tail-back of traffic built up on the eastern approach to the town.
