HATHERLEIGH plays host to a classical concert by the Lawson Trio this Saturday, October 23, the last in the 2010 season by Concerts in the West.
The trio comprises Fenella Humphreys on violin, Rebecca Knight on cello and Annabelle Lawson on piano. They came together at Cambridge in 2000 and have been described by Martin Lovett of the Amadeus Quartet as 'truly excellent players'.
The Concordia Foundation has chosen them as 2010 Young Artists and 'Making Music' has selected them for inclusion in its Concert Promoters' Network 2011/12 Guide. They have also been invited by Aldeburgh to be the first piano trio to have a residency on what has previously been a string quartet residency programme.
The trio has a strong commitment to encouraging younger musicians and audiences, working with them, giving masterclasses and workshops in schools across the UK. This has culminated this year in concerts at the South Bank and Steinway Halls and a Gala Concert celebrating ten years of 'Chamber Music 2000' at the Purcell Room.
The programme for Saturday's concert at Hatherleigh Community Centre is traditional, Mendelssohn's Trio No 1 in D minor, Liszt's Tristia, La Vallée d'Obermann, Schubert's Notturno D897 and Schumann's Trio No 3 in G minor.
The concert starts at 7.30pm — tickets are £10 from the Salar Gallery, 01837 810940,
