TAVISTOCK Chamber of Commerce's Annual Floral Competition was judged last Thursday, with winners in five categories.

The Blacksmith's Arms took the Plymouth Sound Salver for the best display on frontage, baskets, tubs and planters, with the Market Inn winning best group display including small enclosure, mini garden or set piece. They received the John and Pat Warne Plate.

Winners of the best use of space category and the Chamber of Commerce Cup were Tavistock Gas and Stove Centre. Best shop window display and the Tavistock Radio Taxis Rose Bowl was won by Greys, with the best school or youth group and the Seed Corn Award being won by Whitchurch Community Primary School.

Judges for the competition were town mayor Ken Sanders, Jenny McDowell representing the retailers, Nita Keast — vice-president of the Tavistock Flower Club — and Janet Knight, executive member of Tavistock Chamber of Commerce.

The chamber thanked the judges and the many businesses who had once again enhanced their premises and the town with a variety of floral displays.

A spokesman said they were to be congratulated in view of the difficult weather conditions they had had to contend with.
