THE Devon County Amateur Swimming Association Championships came to an end last weekend at Tiverton with Kelly College claiming a further three championship titles. Jack Cockerton (17) added to his tally of Championships by taking the 200m Freestyle Championship just nudging out favourite Steven Beckerleg of Plymouth Leander, with Thomas Howe and Matthew Henry of Kelly College 3rd and 4th. Matthew Henry (15) took his first ever Devon Championship by winning the 200m backstroke in a new age group competition best time of 2.06.47 (just 0.44 seconds outside the school record which is held by Olympian Andrew Jameson, (who is presently in Melbourne commentating at the Commonwealth Games). Thomas Howe (16) was third. David Hill (16) swimming in the 200m backstroke broke the European and British S9 Disability Record with a time of 2.22.87, which placed him 6th in his age group. The girls also heralded a ?first time? champion when Laura Sprague (14) had an outstanding swim from lane 1 to clinch the title ahead of Plymouth Leander?s Sarah Thomas (18). Age group winners over the past two weekends were Kathryn Stacey, Joshua Lake, Matthew Henry, Thomas Howe, Daniel Brown, Megan Mackenzie, Saul Phillips, and Laura Sprague. Those reaching finals were, Mark Brend, Jonathan Sprague, Liam Yeo, Sophie Stanford, Rory Oxborough, Oliver Lake, Cameron Carpenter Warren, David Hill, Daniel Kidwell, Aoife Hurley, Charlie Bayliss, Holly Yeo, Amanda Sanderson, Matthew Stacey, Daniel Brown, Lawrence Oxborough, Junior Heffernan.
