THE final three sessions of the Devon County Amateur Swimming Associations Development Galas took place recently.
Four youngsters from Kelly College took part. Unfortunately for them they missed the first three sessions as they fell on Founder's Day, so they had a lot of catching up to do.
Chris Wylie only took part in the sprints and just missed performing a personal best in the boys' 12 years 50m freestyle with 40.96. Jessica Clear, swimming in the girls' 12 years events, started the day off well with a personal best in the 50m freestyle of 35.99 and then followed this with a personal best of 1.32.42 in the 100m backstroke.
Jessica did another pb in the 200m breaststroke of 3.42.03. This finished a successful morning for her. The afternoon started with the 50m breaststroke, where Jessica recorded 44.54 which placed her 5th in the 12 years age group. Another pb in the 400m freestyle of 6.14.89 again placed Jessica 5th. In the evening another 5th place in the 100m butterfly with another personal best of 1.39.36, followed finally by the 100m individual medley, in another personal best of 1.31.18 saw Jessica end up 8th in the British Age Group Categories.
Joe Werry and Josh Colwill, both 13 years age group, also had a successful day. Both started with personal bests in the 50m Freestyle of 36.33 and 35.41 respectively and followed this with pbs in the 100m backstroke of 1.30.50 and 1.32.95, where Joe was placed 2nd and Josh 3rd. Joe also took part in the 200m breaststroke coming 5th in 3.45.53.
The afternoon started with the 50m breaststroke with Joe swimming 50.45 and Josh 50.71. In the 400m freestyle, Josh swam a personal best of 6.31.99 to come in 4th with Joe (6.49.99) 5th. The last session of the day saw Joe performing a pb to come 3rd in the 100m butterfly for 13 year old boys. The final event, the 100m individual medley again saw both boys doing personal bests, Joe coming 3rd in 1.32.04 and Josh 5th in 1.36.61.
In the British Age Group Categories Joe Werry came 7th and Josh Colwill came 9th. Considering that Jessica, Joe and Josh only competed in half the events they all did extremely well to come up so high in their age groups in these categories.
