A FORMER Callington councillor died last week after being trampled by cows while walking through a field. Sixty-two year old Peter Jakeman was walking through a field in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, last Wednesday morning (May 14) when the incident happened. He was treated for blood loss and chest injuries and was airlifted to hospital where he later died. Mr Jakeman, who served on Callington Town Council from 2004 to 2006, was said by Staffordshire Police to have been injured by stampeding cows within the field. Tributes from neighbours and fellow councillors described Mr Jakeman as talented, of good character and an active member of the community.
