TAVISTOCK Athletic Club's Trevor Williams has established a new club record in his age category and gained a personal best by over a minute for his time of 1 hour 44 mins and 30 secs in the half marathon at Granollers in Spain.

Trevor was one of 6,300 athletes on the start line at Granollers, near Barcelona. The undulating 13.1 mile route took competitors through rural towns and small villages to the spa town of Garriga and back. The day was warm at 20C but pleasant and ideal for the run. The winner was the Kenyan athlete Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot in a time of 1.02.01.

Since he started running at the age of 57, Trevor has competed in over 50 half and 16 full marathons and last year achieved his aim of running a marathon in Scotland, Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Wales and England.

He's out most days with his four-legged running buddy, Jess, running a favourite circuit which includes plenty of hills and his running is currently going from strength to strength. For the last three years he's been a very popular (if exhausting) club coach.

The club's plans for it's first half marathon, the Tavy 13, are progressing well. Plenty of local runners have already entered and entrants don't need to be a member of a running club.
