MORE than 100 people made their way to the Borough Arms at Dunmere in Bodmin for the Newquay Road Runners organised training run at the weekend. Donations to the Mount Edcumbe Hospice were collected and £120.87 was raised. Runners headed down to the trail where Paul Bullock, vice-chairman of Newquay, thanked everyone for joining in and runners set off at a slow pace for the first mile to warm up. Ideal conditions made it comfortable for running. A good turnout of all abilities made it enjoyable for everyone, some running beyond the fish at Pooley's bridge, some turning back earlier. The steady climb up the trail is about 6.5 miles, but over six miles it is not too noticeable. There were runners from a number of clubs with 17 travelling from Bere Alston Trekkers and Tavistock Athletics — all of these athletes ran 14 miles as part of their training schedule for the London Marathon in April.
