TAVISTOCK Lions Club president Carole Gawn recently presented cheques for £1,950 to representatives from St Luke's Hospice, Children's Hospice South West and the Mustard Tree Macmillan Centre, the money having been raised by the Trees of Light.
Carol thanked the Lethbridge family for organising the project on behalf of the club and also the directors of the local funeral company, Morris Bros (Tavistock) Ltd for covering the total cost which enabled all of the money raised through the sponsorship of the lights to go to the charities.
This was the thirteenth year of the Trees of Light which to date have raised over £56,000 for local cancer charities.
Three years ago the Club established a charitable trust for the project meaning that gift aid can be claimed back from Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs, which should result in an additional £350 being given to each of the three charities.
