THE Okehampton link road is front page news (Times, March 4) and appears to be recognised as a good idea by all, so can they please just get on and do it. However, no doubt things will take some years to progress.
The main reasons for the regular traffic problems in Okehampton are all the houses being built one side of the town and the supermarkets on the other, with the two separated by the most inefficient traffic lights possible.
While the link road should still be constructed as soon as practical, the traffic lights could easily and economically be changed to relieve the present congestion.
I have studied and worked with logic theory and electric circuits and offer my services, free of charge, to design a revised system and arrangement that will significantly improve traffic flow and increase pedestrian safety.
This is, in fact, not very difficult, given the existing poor design and that most mobile telephones make better use of their electronic intelligence and computing power than the existing traffic lights.
