THE annual Tavy 7 race, which attracts runners from all over the region, will take place in the Tavistock area this Sunday.

The start and finish for the race will be at the Horrabridge end of Plasterdown. Tavistock Athletic Club, which organises the event, ask that motorists and other road users in the Plasterdown, Pew Tor and Sampford Spiney areas look out for runners while the race is taking place between noon and 1.30 pm.

There will also be extra traffic on the road between Warren's Cross and the start from 10.30 as runners arrive, and from 1 pm as they leave. All runners have been asked to access the area via Down Road and Whitchurch Down and not to use Jordan Lane in Horrabridge or Church Hill in Whitchurch.

There will also be some congestion on the road from Plasterdown to Brook as the parking area is accessed from this road at the top of the hill by the cattle grid.

A spokesman for the club said: 'Marshals will be positioned at all road junctions to ensure the safety of runners and to allow traffic to proceed as quickly as possible.

'The club is doing what it can to make local residents aware that the race is taking place and apologies for any inconvenience caused.

'This year's Tavy 7 is a very special event, in commemoration of Martin Gibbs.

'Martin was a very active member of Tavistock Athletic Club, raising funds for numerous charities. The race this year will also be in support of St Luke's Hospice, who provided excellent care for Martin at their centre in Plymouth.'

Tavistock Athletic Club would like to say a big thank you in advance to all local residents affected by this event.
