IN reply to the letter (October 22) suggesting Goose Fair was tacky and pointless:

The cattle market opened its gates to the public with animals, demonstrations and stalls on site.

The event saw a lot of visitors and many of whom commented on how the day was more about the traditional Goose Fair than the commercialised town centre.

The demonstrations including sheep shearing and bread making, were very popular, along with stalls selling local food and craft items. Traditional goose meals were also available on site. Feedback from people who attended was very good and we hope to build on the day and hopefully visitor numbers will increase.

We admit the cattle market is not well signposted. This is something we are working on and hopefully next year we will have more help with promoting the day.
