TAVISTOCK?S very own ?Last Night of the Proms? concert will raise the roof of The Wharf Theatre next week. Organised by the Tavistock Versatile Brass Ensemble (TUBES), the event, on Friday September 9, promises something for everyone, including all the traditional music that makes the Proms so gloriously popular. The evening is Tavistock?s own tribute to what has become a uniquely British institution with a programme featuring Rule Britannia, Jerusalem, Land of Hope and Glory and the Sea Songs. Soprano Kate Walker is the guest soloist and she will be joined by the chorus of the Carmenians Theatre Company. The concert will also feature the Plymouth-based brass ensemble Soundhouse Brass Band. Macmillan Cancer Relief will also benefit too as it is TUBES? chosen charity for the year. The Tavistock ensemble will be presenting the charity with a cheque for £500. Chris Northey, TUBES musical director and concert organiser, said: ?It?s very much an evening for local people featuring local talent with music old and new. ?It?s the sixth year that we have held the Proms concert and it?s very popular with young and old alike.? Tickets for the concert, which starts at 7.30pm, are on sale at The Wharf Box Office on 01822 611166 costing £6.50 for adults and £4.50 for children.
