DOUSLAND man Graham Mcpherson was recently drawn as the winner of '£1,000 Worth of Furniture' from Tavistock's Fairway Furniture.

The retailer, which is among the oldest independent businesses in the country, was celebrating its 155th birthday with the free prize draw held across all its stores in Devon and Cornwall during July.

Graham, who has been a regular customer at the Tavistock store, said: 'It came as somewhat of a surprise to win, as my wife and I don't ever seem to win competitions!

'We're about to start redecorating a room at home, so I'm sure this will come in useful when we want to fit it out.'

Tavistock store manager Mike James, who presented Graham with his prize, said: 'This is the second time in three years that a customer of the Tavistock store has won this fantastic prize and we'll be delighted to help Mr and Mrs Mcpherson select what will best suit them.'
