Tavistock Second XV 52

Honiton 0

TAVISTOCK roared straight down the slope from the kick-off and after the forwards had driven play into the Honiton 22, quick hands from the backs saw Lee Greatrex score the first try after less than 60 seconds.

Tavistock continued to dominate and went on to score a further five tries before halftime.

Number eight, Lee Easton, who had an outstanding game, was next on the scoresheet after another strong drive from the forwards; then flanker Steve Luffman finished off a good handling move. Wing Sam Smerdon scored the next two with centre Nick Lane providing the offload for one of them. Fellow centre Joe Lane galloped in with the final try just before halftime. With Credicott adding four conversions, the home side led 38-0 at halfway

With the visitors playing with the slope advantage now, the second half was a more even contest and Honiton managed to make a number of attacks on the Tavistock line, but the home defence held firm. Tavistock looked dangerous on the counter-attack and added two more tries in the half, one from Sam Smerdon to complete his hat-trick and Lee Greatrex added the last try. Credicott booted two more conversions to make it 52-0.

The Tavistock front row of Matt Martin; Chris John and John Wakem were dominant in the scrums and loose and with the forwards and backs linking well, the whole side gave a good display of running rugby. The only disappointment was the poor line-out play.
