CALLINGTON is responding to the plight of the Haitian people with collections and events organised to raise money in the wake of the earthquake last week.
People are donating money at the town's Oxfam shop and the Romanian Orphanage charity shop has said that all proceeds this week will go to Haiti.
Anique Skinner from Callington Library has organised a community coffee morning on Thursday, January 28 from 10am to 12.30pm at the library with a bring and buy and cake stall to raise money for ShelterBox. The Cornish-based charity is sending survival equipment to the people of Haiti whose homes have been destroyed.
Callington Methodist Church table table tennis club will be holding a fundraising event in the town hall on Saturday, January 30. From 9am to 2pm there will be a coffee morning and a pasty and pudding lunch.
Tony Rickard from the club said: 'This is Callington's opportunity to give its support to the people who have suffered this terrible tragedy. Donations will be gratefully received.'
l A brunch is being held in the Old School Community Centre in Stoke Climsland on Sunday (January 24) from 10am to 2pm. Children at the village school have already been raising money.
