Tavistock Seconds 5 Plymouth Marjons C 2 MARJONS had only lost twice so far this season, one of those reverses being 2-1 against Tavistock back in October — so were determined to get their own back. On Saturday the match was played at a good pace with Marjons looking the more dangerous coming forward in the first 20 minutes as Tavistock struggled to pass the ball effectively. Adam Holland worked extremely hard running the front line, however Marjons always seemed to have men over at the back whenever he or Damian Heard carved out any chances. As Tavistock started to put some good moves together the impressive Phil Edwards, Sam Willets and Phil Honey pushed forward and they were rewarded with a short corner. The corner was smashed home by Edwards and Tavistock were 1-0 up. As the first half wore on the Tavistock front line continued to cause Marjons trouble and any attempt by them to cause the home defence any problems were successfully repelled by Bellard, George, Crittendon and Costello. Near the end of the half Holland was on hand to pass the ball into the goal following good work from Edwards, Honey and Heard down the Tavistock left. With Tavistock leading 2-0 at half time the team talk was of the need to pass the ball effectively and that was exactly what Tavistock did as they stormed into the second half. Rhodda replaced the injured Bradley in defence and throughout the second half timed some excellent tackles disrupting the Marjons attack. Willets moving up from left back to left half capped an excellent Tavistock move forcing the ball past the Marjons' keeper for Tavistock's third. Heard continued to play forward and another short corner reward was converted in similar fashion by Edwards smashing the ball home in a carbon copy of his first to make it 4-0. Marjon heads were clearly down and the industrious Daniels made it 5-0 to confound the formbook. With the team coasting to an impressive victory the foot seemed to come of the gas and the far younger Marjons players took advantage of this. Osbourne was superb in the Tavistock goal, one particularly acrobatic save pushing the ball over the top left hand corner was applauded by the spectators. He was helpless though as Marjons carved open the home defence twice in quick succession. l Tavistock this week are away to Truro who are currently top of the division.
