ALBASTON fete will include a town criers' competition this year, organised by Calstock parish town crier Hilary Fairhurst.

The fete, on Saturday, June 15 from 2pm, will see between six and ten criers from Devon and Cornwall performing.

Hilary, who covers the whole of the parish of Calstock, is unable to compete, but the town crier for Callington — who also happens to live in Albaston — has been invited to do so as he does not cover the Calstock area.

Dennis Cook was only recently appointed as Callington town crier and said the two criers were often confused, living so close to one another.

Albaston fete will also include a vintage rally, dog show, Dartmoor Hawking and Callington Wind Band. It will be be preceded by a fun run and relay race on the previous day, with a grand draw taking place on the Sunday evening. Stalls are bookable and further information is available on 832849.
