I AM writing in response to the recent letter replies as published in the Times about the A386 and the expression of need for a bypass around Tavistock. To my knowledge it was published as early as 1969 within the national as well as the Devon county structure plan that there was a proposal for a dual carriageway entirely around Dartmoor National Park. The proposed link road between the Okehampton bypass and Plymouth has been one of its most contentious issues, that is the siting of the Tavistock town bypass, which is to be located either to the west or east of the town ? today this is still not resolved. It is my understanding that many of the so-called safety and environmental issues have yet to be resolved, meanwhile the cost of construction is escalating every day. It is my hope that this will be finalised and completed before 2019, which is over 50 years since it was originally proposed. I look forward to reading comments from your readers.
