Camborne 36
Tavistock 0
Tavistock travelled to league champions elect Camborne on Saturday knowing they were in for a difficult afternoon. The first ten minutes of the match lived up to expectations seeing Camborne run in three converted tries for a twenty one point lead and effectively game over.
After this opening onslaught Tavy got their act together and provided Camborne with a stiff test especially in the forwards where there close quarter game was equal to their hosts. Camborne opened the scoring after five minutes with hooker Sam Bartle supporting play to claim the touchdown.
Almost immediately after Camborne full back Joe Parma fielded a badly directed Tavistock kick and ran the ball back for a good solo try. The third try came from Camborne wing Cameron Bone who cut in field to score close to the Tavistock posts. Camborne fly half David Mankee converted all three tries. The visitors then got their forward game working and put pressure on Camborne through some driving forward play which involved flanker Duncan Law and number Jake Phillips who returning from injury had a sound game. Just before half time Camborne scored again, working right winger Andy Notman over for the fourth try.
The second half saw Tavistock continued improved performance and by keeping the game tight they starved the talented and swift Camborne backs of the ball and put pressure on their hosts. When they released the ball to the backs Doug Lloyd, Lawrence Evans and Will Brown found themselves unable to force their way over the line.
Camborne did score two further tries in the second half. The first try came from flanker Sam Matavesi who drove over from a line out close to the Tavistock line and the second from Joe Parma who finished off a long distance counter attacking move.
As the game came to a conclusion Camborne seemed to get frustrated at their lack of further success and as a result the game became a niggley affair - ending with fly half David Mankee being sent off. Tavistock flanker Duncan Law and prop Jordan Patley have been selected for the Devon team to play against Cornwall.
