TAVISTOCK Athletic Club held its senior presentation evening, awarding trophies to club members for their effort and successes over the past year.

The first award was to the male and female winners of the newly re-introduced Grand Prix series. The purpose of the series is to encourage club members to participate in local races. The ten selected events are over varying distances from 5k to the 13.1miles of the half marathon and are a mixture of road, trail and multi-terrain races.

Third female was Hazel Walker, Becky Mingo was second, and the winner was one of the club's senior females, Ann Woodhouse. Ann, who always races strongly in the F65+ age category, embraced the event from the start and is a very worthy winner.

In the men's series, David Twine finished third while Trevor Williams and Pete Bazley tied for first place. All three are club coaches and always finish high in their age categories so this was a closely-fought competition.

The annual awards were presented by Llew Jones, a founder member of the club.

Caroline Steven was the female winner of the award for track and field, and Adam Tofield the male. Becca Deane was nominated for the cross country award, but the winner was Jo Meek (female) and Richard Drage (male). The best newcomers were Liz Vernon (f) and Adrian Pitcher (m).

Vicki Lloyd, Jackie Ralph and Lindsay Hobbs were all nominated for the Effort shield, but the winner was Lesley Cowie. Nominations for the male award were Pete Bazley, Paul Bumford and Adrian Pitcher with John Windermer the winner.

The improvement awards went to Becca Deane (f) and Paul Bumford (m), and the Achievement Award winners were Becky Mingo (f) and Pete Bazley (m).

The outstanding athlete of the year was Jo Meek for the females, and Jim Cole, male.

Wally Lake was coach of the year, and club member of the year was Sheila Houghton.
