PLANS to erect a 39-metre tower and radio station site on Bowden Down near Brentor were rejected by West Devon's planning committee in Tavistock on Tuesday.

Planning officer Jane Green told members that Surf Telecoms Ltd regarded their present site at Lamerton as limited — the proposed application for Bowden Down would enable the company to provide local employment and improve their facilities.

Councillors were told the area was close to Dartmoor National Park on high ground, and the proposed mast would be 'clearly visible' — particularly from St Michael's Church at Brentor.

'Although the site would benefit from off-road parking it would have an extremely significant adverse effect on this rural area,' she said.
