WITH regard to increasing the sports facilities at Roadford reservoir (Times November 3) and recalling the assurances given at the inquiry by South West Water, that only quiet leisure pursuits plus a little electricity generation would take place, I think water skiing is a step too far. The tow-boat is bound to be noisy and sounds travel far across water. If sailing boats are to ?learn the ropes? in safety the reservoir is not an appropriate place for speed as well. Even the recent introduction of a mini-steam boat raises the question of the use of fuel. Bio-fuels may have been used on this and other motorised boats. But where in Devon can bio-fuels be purchased? We would all like some. As for the 67 holiday time shares with the essential sewage, car parking and other visitor comforts, which incidentally would be roughly double the houses in Broadwoodwidger, are the time share rents to reduce our water bills or to maintain sports facilities? Tourism seems to take precedence over the need for affordable homes for local residents. Should commerce in the name of tourism by given such a free rein? A Crampton Oaklands Park Okehampton
