IN reply to Nadine Trout's letter (October 19) regarding future tourist information in Tavistock. All of what she said is excellent as promotion of the town should, in my opinion, be done by both its residents and retailers.

I wonder if the tourist office could be retained if a suitable premises could be found, which could be shared with a retail operator? For example, some time ago there was a suggestion that the farmers' market could be interested in a retail outlet which stocked their produce, enabling the public to shop six days a week, supporting the local economy. Tourism and buying local produce must be compatible.

Surely, buying local is one of the reasons both locals and tourists shop and come to Tavistock?
