Okehampton Seconds 33
Topsham 22
ON a sunny but cold afternoon Okehampton Seconds entertained Topsham, who arrived with just 12 players. Fortunately Okehampton, with three replacements, made up the visiting side to the full fifteen.
Playing down the slope, the home side opened the scoring with a try by Andy Ewen. Soon there was a dramatic chance with some poor tackling allowing Topsham to score two converted tries, followed by a penalty to give them a lead of 17-5.
Okehampton hit back with two more tries by Andy Ewen, both converted by fellow veteran Mark Curtis.
The half-time score was 19-17 to the home side.
Three penalties by Curtis stretched the lead before Topsham hit back with an unconverted try, setting up a tense final few minutes. However, a final flourish by Andy Ewen to grab his fourth try sealed the match.
Another fine win by an improving side.
