WHITCHURCH Montessori Nursery is celebrating, following an excellent report from Ofsted inspectors. The nursery say they are delighted with the good assessment they received. The inspector commented that children enjoy coming to the welcoming nursery, benefitting from a programme which integrates Montessori principles and the foundation stage equally. The report stated of particular note was the good quality of teaching and learning the children were benefitting from, and the friendly guidance offered by teachers who are aware of their needs as they know the children well. The inspector said the children's behaviour was good with children enjoying helping the teachers and each other. This was fostered as the teachers create a calm atmosphere. Chairperson Claire Heard said: 'The Montessori programme enables children to grow in confidence and independence. The inspector found that children are able to make a positive contribution as they develop a good sense of self and belonging at the nursery, due to the good settling in procedures, the friendly welcome they receive on arrival and an effective partnership with their parents and carers. ' The nursery opened in 1980 and meets in Whitchurch Methodist Hall on weekdays during term times from 9.15am to 12.15pm and on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 1.15pm to 3.45pm. The group also operates a lunch club. The nursery takes children from three to five years old and has a maximum of 14 children per session, making it a very small, friendly nursery with a family atmosphere. Claire said she would like to extend her congratulations to the excellent teaching staff and Committee which have enabled such a fantastic OFSTED report.
