A MEMBER of the Tavistock Trefoil Guild has been awarded a coveted Gold Dark Horse Award Badge.

Thelma Newell has been given the accolade — it was once awarded for carrying out three meaningful adventures or three public spirited services, but recently this was increased to four.

Thelma has been awarded certificates for assisting a young guide to produce a book on Guiding County Badges, research work into guide badges, producing a book on guide badges (http://www.handsonguiding.co.uk">www.handsonguiding.co.uk), and work assisting the Rev Roger Cornish, of the United Reformed Church in Tavistock, by producing drawings in order to order and steward an exhibition.

She will receive her certificate at a County Trefoil event at Kingsteignton in the autumn. The presentation will be carried out by the joint Tavistock Trefoil chairman, Valerie Mansfield or past chairman Sheila Bromidge.
