A TAVISTOCK College student is celebrating after receiving a top national award.
Sixteen-year-old Josh Andrews, who is the youngest member of Hospital Radio Plymouth, was named the Hospital Broadcasting Association's Volunteer Of The Year at the National Hospital Radio Awards.
Each year the HBA, which organises the awards, chooses one volunteer from the UK whom it feels has made an outstanding contribution to hospital radio.
Josh was selected predominantly for the work he does entertaining the children's wards in Plymouth's Derriford Hospital in his weekly programme.
The judges were impressed with the level of commitment Josh has shown as a volunteer and he also received a commendation in the best newcomer category.
Following the awards Josh was invited to attend Westminster in June to address MPs as part of a delegation about youth volunteering.
Hospital Radio Plymouth enjoyed other success during the evening, picking up the silver award in the hotly contested station of the year category.
Josie Scobling also received a silver award in the best speech package category for her documentary 'Shirley's Story' and Isobel King was highly commended as best female presenter.
Station manager Andrew Hill said: 'With so many insular activities young people lean towards these days it is refreshing to see a 16-year-old such as Josh with such enthusiasm for team playing and creativity geared to improving the lives of others.
'It is a thoroughly deserved award and we are all very pleased that his dedication has been recognised in this way.'
