A WEST Devon business woman scooped an award at the UK's Institution of Chemical Engineers' annual ceremony recently.

Clare Moody, a sustainable development tutor from Lifton, works in conjunction with University of Bath's Department of Chemical Engineering and Schumacher College in Dartington, and together they received the award for their Interactive Development Training course.

The professional development course emphasises the importance of poverty alleviation as part of sustainable development and was Highly Commended at the awards ceremony.

The award signals acceptance by the institution, that engineers should consider the immediate needs of the world's poor as well as the long term protection of the environment in their efforts to promote sustainable development. The course is run for students from all over the world, who work at company and country levels in sustainable development issues.
