Jewson South Western League
Penryn 2
Tavistock 3
THE Lambs' trip down to the far west turned out to be a fruitful one in the end against the new boys who joined the league after a 15-year gap. On a good playing surface with the wind behind them and playing down the slope the Lambs did not make a good start.
Darren Cliffe headed wide when it seemed easier to score and that was possibly the best chance before 38 minutes when Tavistock finally clicked. Cliffe worked his way down the flank to chip the ball in for Lee Cansfield to head home from close range.
The Lambs put themselves in a commanding position two minutes into injury time of the first half when Cansfield provided the cross for Dean Tongue to untie the home defence and shoot low into the far corner.
The beginning of the second half started with the Lambs on the attack and they could have been further ahead but Cliffe shot straight at the keeper. And keeper Angove's clearance almost found the net when Cansfield blocked it and the ball cannoned back the wrong side of the post.
The home side have the knack of coming back from two and three-goal deficits and they were soon back in it as Steve Coggin danced his way past the Tavistock mid field to slot home in the 51st minute.
Three minutes later they were back on level terms with a hint of controversy. Tony Cusack came out of his own penalty with the ball but was fouled in the process, with the referee's assistant flagging.
The referee played the advantage rule but Cusack's clearance went straight to Lee Oldfield who sent the ball flying back over the head of Andy Meeds.
Had that score remained there would have been a lot of discussion about the incident. It was finally forgotten when Cansfield received a quick throw-in to send the ball into the middle for Tongue to notch his second goal of the game to give the Lambs victory and send them back to the top of the table.

Tavistock 1
Elite Command 1
THE Lambs dropped their first points of the season in this top of the table clash. Simon Pocknell scored for the Lambs and the visitors equalised before the interval.
The second half saw the Lambs miss a series of chances and the Command almost snatched victory with the ball sailing over the bar from close range.
A game where the Lambs should have cruised home but lacked penetration in the final third of the field with two many players having an off-day and in the end were glad to settle for a point.
