WHEN it comes to enjoying a good children's book a boy from Horrabridge certainly has a word or two to say on the matter — according to one of the country's top publishers. Tom Cooper, who attends Lady Modiford's C of E School in Walkhampton, was asked by Puffin Books to review one of its children's books after they were so impressed when he submitted to them his opinions of the 'Incredible Book Eating Boy' by Oliver Jeffers, as part of the recent World Book Day, which involved schoolchildren from all over the country. The London-based publishers wrote back, asking him to give a review of the latest manuscript by children's author Alex Cliff — one of his Superpowers series. The book series involved the adventures of a sabre toothed lion and a Hercules character. His review will be seen in the latest Puffin Book catalogue. Tom, aged eight, told the Times that he loves reading and enjoys the adventures of the characters and the stories. He said: 'I just enjoy reading and like all the different characters and the stories. I liked it when they were jumping high up in the trees.' His mother, Jackie, is delighted that Tom has taken such an interest in reading and thought he had done especially well to be chosen by the publishers to review one of their books. 'At his age normally they are just interesting in the packaging but when they just sent the unpublished manuscript it was a lot to ask for someone of his age to sit down and read it, but he just got on with it. 'He only had ten days before he had to sent it back. I'm really proud' she said.
