THE timeless and humorous stories of Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales are being brought to life in a production involving two of the area's drama groups.

The Tavonians from Tavistock and Lada from Lydford are joining together in a unique venture to bring this version of the Tales to Lydford and Buckland Monachorum.

Canterbury Tales tells of a band of goodhearted pilgrims in the 14th century on a pilgrimage to Canterbury.

Pilgrimages were entered into much in the spirit of a summer holiday and by way of making the journey less tedious they are challenged by a local publican to each tell a story.

The result is number of tales of human dilemmas, animal fables and tortuous romantic involvements. Funny, earthy, sometimes poignant, Arnold Wengrow's version keeps both the spirit and much of the wording of the original.

Performances are at Nicholl's Hall, Lydford, Friday and Saturday October 12 and 13, and Buckland Monachorum Village Hall, Wednesday and Thursday October 17 and 18.

Bookings: 01822 820479 or 820228 for Lydford, 01822 853857 or 854724 for Buckland.
