THE ninth annual Sticklepath International Chess Festival will be putting skills to the test on June 16.

Local pub teams will be vying for the title, and overseeing the event as usual will be British Grand Master, media columnist and author William Hartston.

Trophies have been donated by St Austell Breweries and, sunshine willing, the games will be on the lawn behind the Devonshire Inn alongside the National Trust's Finch Foundry.
