TIME for Life is hosting a special social afternoon event this Sunday (October 23) in Okehampton Conservative Club.

The Social Afternoon is the new name for what was known as the Tea Dance and dancing is still very much part of the event for those who wish to dance, but the emphasis is now more on enjoying the music, the refreshments and the company of like-minded people.

Once a month the Social Afternoon offers music, tea and cakes which can be enjoyed by anyone who would like to come along.

The Social Afternoon takes place in the middle of each month and starts at 2.30pm.

The Conservative Club’s hall is an ideal space for socialising as well as dancing.

The music is supplied by John and Sonia who have recordings of hundreds of favourite tunes and songs, many dating back through the years to the 40s. They are also superb and enthusiastic dancers and everyone is encouraged to have a go on the dance floor, whatever their ability or fitness level — and it’s fine just to sway to the music if you don’t want to dance.

This is one of the activities organised by Time for Life which, as well as offering a one-to-one enabling service for people over 65 who feel socially isolated, also run a number of social and special interest groups and activities.

Other groups include a monthly play reading group, a fortnightly writers’ circle, a weekly coffee morning.

There are also art sessions and singing organised by Time for Life. New groups are currently being planned, including a gardening group using raised beds at the allotments.

Time for Life would be pleased to hear from anyone who would like to volunteer to help with any of the existing groups, or indeed to start any new groups.
