THERE?has been ‘Clean for the Queen’ with people tidying streets and other public areas of the country in huge numbers proceeding Her Majesty’s 90th birthday — well now it’s Clean for Tavistock!

Tidy Tavi volunteers will be mustering at the Meadowlands Leisure Centre at 10am on Saturday (July 2) for their monthly litter-picking expedition.

‘The long evenings of mid-summer inevitably tend to generate greater quantities of detritus casually discarded by those out and about but less concerned about their surroundings than they should be,’ said a Tavy Tidi spokesperson.

‘This problem is often exacerbated by the rapid growth of hedgerows and verges, where litter can lurk unseen until the autumn when it is revealed, making our beautiful town look like some scruffy conurbation inside the M25.’

While the police and local authorities do their best to counter this, others are determined to take direct action by clearing up the mess so if you are one of those many people who have always thought about joining in Tidy Tavi but have never quite got around to it; why not go along and give it a try?

‘Most newcomers fit in really quickly and invariably find the experience worthwhile and even enjoyable,’ continued the spokesperson. ‘Tidy Tavi litter-picking expeditions start at 10am and finish at around midday. All you need to bring is a pair of good gloves and a commendable shot of community spirit!’
