BELSTONE travelled to a sun-drenched Roborough on Sunday and emerged the victors in a closely fought game in the South Devon League division 2.
Batting first, the Roborough top order accumulated steadily reaching 141 for 4 in the 33rd over with every prospect of a late acceleration with wickets in hand. However, fine bowling by Eddie Jones (2-24) and Ian Solomon (4-16) broke through the lower order to such an extent that the last 6 wickets fell for 17 runs as the home team were all out in the final over for 158. Needing to score at just under 4 an over, Belstone also batted steadily with good contributions from all the top order, but at 106 for 5, they still required 53 off the last 10 overs. These were knocked off in fine style with 4 balls to spare in an unbroken stand between Nick Cowley (35 not out) and Simon Tremain (16 not out).
Belstone are on tour to Cornwall this weekend with games at Mount Edgecumbe and Trengilly Wartha, and begin their evening Buckley Cup fixtures with a home match against local rivals Sticklepath on Thursday May 31.
