TWENTY-six Tidy Tavi volunteers turned out on Saturday morning in sunny conditions to ‘Clean for the Queen’ ahead of her 90th birthday celebrations.
This excellent response allowed teams to visit many parts of Tavistock and some of the surrounding area.
Litter was collected from locations as far apart as the Woodtown layby, the Callington Road and Pitts Cleave Industrial Estate, where a large amount of rubbish exposed during hedge cutting work was dealt with.
The large number of volunteers stretched resources somewhat, to the extent that there were insufficient high visibility jackets for everyone.
Tidy Tavi organisers expressed thanks to Andy of Body Balance who, being parked nearby, helped to alleviate the situation by lending some of his equipment for the morning.
Steps are now being taken to procure extra jackets in anticipation of large volunteer numbers during the coming spring and summer months.
Once the litter picking expedition had been completed, a party of Tidy Tavi volunteers visited the premises of Quinn’s Menswear, where a certificate of appreciation was presented for efforts made by the proprietor and staff for keeping the pavement outside clear of litter over many years.
Certificates of this nature will be presented to similar businesses, organisations and individuals making efforts to keep Tavistock tidy in future months.
