NEW fishing lakes at the West Devon Anglers' Paradise were given the seal of approval by well known fisherman Frank Warwick last weekend. The new Nirvana Lakes consist of several lakes — Kracking Karp, Silverfish and Fatboys — plus a trout lake and are stocked with a variety of fish including catfish and carp. Owner of Anglers' paradise, Zyg Gregorek, said: 'These lakes give an extra opportunity for local people as well as tourists to fish for something different. 'I think we've probably got the biggest catfish in the country now — there are one or two over 50lbs.' The fish are caught on a 'catch and release' basis, said Zyg. 'They catch their fish, they have their photo taken with it and back it goes,' he said. The fishing season at Anglers' Paradise has got off to a busy start, with some monster fishes already being caught. Twelve-year-old Callum Reid, a visitor to Devon from Blackpool, recently caught the biggest carp ever caught by an angler his age, when he netted a 31lb Mirror carp, while a giant 37lb catfish was bagged by Mick Whitfield. On the day following the opening, Sally Kemp won the weekend's fishing match — also netting herself a holiday into the bargain.
