THEY were dancing into the wee hours in Calstock over the weekend as the sun shone on the 20th festival.

Saved by a group of friends with little experience of holding events of this nature, the three-day celebration of music and arts with a green theme was an unbelievable success, giving organisers the momentum for something bigger and better next year.

Barry Kirkman, festival committee member, said: 'The bands were absolutely amazing. Circus of Sound, a ten piece band that plays with a lot of brass and a lot of rhythm, got everyone dancing. In fact dance summed up the weekend. We were still dancing in our heads when the music stopped.'

A flea market and workshops using recycled materials kept the crowds busy and a willow and tissue paper dome which everyone had a hand in making especially the children of the village became the hub of the festival with many events being held in there.

There were belly dancers, unicyclists and DJs, big veggie breakfasts, storytelling and exhibitions.

Film-makers Barry Kirkman and Ruth Davies spent all weekend filming the festival which will be available as a DVD to buy and raise funds soon.

'There were a lot of people around,' said Barry. 'I have not seen as many people in Calstock for donkeys years.'

Already next year's '20ten' festival is being planned which will be a week long with various extra events throughout the year. All ages and tastes will be catered for with lots for children and teenagers.

Anyone interested in joining the committee for next year is asked to attend the annual meeting on June 24 at Calstock Village Hall at 7.30pm.
