MORE than 170 residents visited an advice and information roadshow as it toured 12 villages across Dartmoor last month.

West Devon Borough Council teamed up with Dartmoor National Park Authority and Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service to take the roving service to outlying communities.

Some 450 different queries were answered during the week-long event from June 10 to 14. Thirty residents who popped along to the roadshow also found they were eligible for a free Home Fire Safety Visit and will now have smoke detectors fitted in their homes.

The distinctive Dartmoor National Park Authority van stopped off at Brentor, Bridestowe, Dousland, Horrabridge, Lydford, Mary Tavy, Peter Tavy, South Zeal, Sticklepath, Walkhampton, Whiddon Down and Yelverton.

 A DNP Ranger was on hand at each location to answer questions about their work and other National Park issues.

 Ranger Ian Brooker said: 'This has been an excellent partnership, well received by Dartmoor communities and it has been great to meet so many people.'

 A roadshow draw to win a hamper of Devon produce worth £50 was won by John Burgess from Bridestowe.
