Gunnislake v Ordulph

ORDULPH came closer than any team this season to beating top of the table Gunnislake ? they lost by only three runs in a thrilling game that went to the last over.

Gunnislake were put in to bat and things started well for Ordulph.

Opening bowlers Lethbridge and Folley tied Gunnislake down with exceptional figures of 1-24 off 12 and 2 for 12 off 12 respectively.

After 20 overs Gunnislake only had 30 runs on the board. However, with the arrival of Astley (55) to the crease supported well by Martin (22) the runs started to flow until Astley was brilliantly caught by Coad.

Good spells of containing bowling by Westlake (2 for 38) and Mi Wheeler (1 for 43) managed to restrict the Gunnislake score to 130.

Ordulph went in to bat knowing that to reach the Gunnislake score they would have to ride the storm of opening bowler Astley.

This proved to be the case with early wickets of Statton and Lethbridge falling to the pace of Astley.

A gritty display by opener Tynan (25) saw him ride out the storm.

With the runs required rate rising a superb rapid 42 from Ma Wheeler brought the Gunnislake score back into reach.

Further quick runs from Mi Wheeler (14) Folley (13) and Coad (11) almost got the Ordulph there, but the accuracy of Astley (5 for 27 off 12) now returning to the attack supported by Martin (3 for 27) enabled wickets to fall regularly in the run chase.

With three runs required off the last over it was too much for the Ordulph tail batsmen of Hodges and Piper ? Piper was bowled by Martin going for the big hit.

This week Ordulph are away to Yelverton.
