ORGANISERS of Tamar Grow Local's new monthly produce market say they were thrilled with the turnout at Calstock Quay on Saturday.
Food and drink grown or made in the Tamar Valley was on-sale, including, apple juice, jams and preserves, flowers, and smoked fish.
Simon Platten from Tamar Grow Local said: 'We were really thrilled with the turnout, Calstock residents and visitors seemed pleased to see us and were keen to let us know what they would like to see more of in the future.
'We have a great range of small producers in the valley now and hope the new Calstock market will be a good showcase for them and encourage more people to shop locally.'
SailTrade's Yealm Crabber Shamrock was a great feature on Calstock Quay on Saturday. Built in the 1890s, Shamrock is powered by sail and timed with the tides and delivered a shipment of seaweed gathered from Cawsand for Calstock Allotments.
Andy Whiteford form SailTrade said: 'I had a few enquiries from Calstock people asking if we would be bringing seaweed up the river each month, it is a great fertilizer for the garden so we'll definitely look into bringing up more for the May market.'
At high tide, Shamrock was loaded up again, with the market produce and set sail to deliver produce and back down the river to Royal William Yard in Plymouth for the Tamar Grow Local stall at Sunday's Good Food Market.
Tamar Grow Local's mixed produce stall will also be located at Cotehele Quay on the last Saturday of each month. For a full list of dates and locations visit tamargrowlocal.org/local-markets
