Duchy division two

Calstock 6

St Newlyn East 2

TOP of the table St Newlyn East dominated the first 15 minutes of the game and scored an early goal, however Calstock came back when Darren Benfield pressured the keeper to win the ball and equalise.

St Newlyn continued to pressure the Calstock goal and scored again, but the home side battled hard and when man of the match Barry Hemmett played a ball through to put Lee Hould one on one with the keeper, Hould calmly slotted home into the far corner with his weaker foot. The sides went into half time at 2-2.

Calstock started the second half well, putting immediate pressure on the visitors. Their defence of Craig Keegan, Stephen Cottingham, Paul Cottingham and Lee Webb stood strong while wingers Shane Richards and Barry Hemmett helped out their full backs.

Richards put Darren Benfield through, who at an angle, drilled the ball far post to put Calstock ahead. From then on Calstock's confidence grew and dominated the game, with Lee Hould and captain Jon Tilbury winning the loose balls in the midfield and breaking down play. Darren Benfield was involved in the fourth goal when he crossed the ball into the box where Hould smashed in his second of the game.

Strikers Ross Lavers and Benfield continued to pressure the visitors and they were rewarded when Benfield crossed the ball for Lavers put away.

It wasn't long until another goal was scored when Phillips played the ball through for Benfield to run onto one on one to slot home and complete a well deserved hat-trick.

This was a fine win for Calstock and a great performance from the whole team.
