A FAMILY trio has completed an 81-mile trek through Cornwall raising several thousand pounds for charity. Teenager Jonny Burnard, 15, a student at Callington Community College, along with his father Andy and grandfather Terry, have just completed an eight day walk from Saltash to Land's End to raise funds for Little Harbour Children's Hospice in St Austell. The team was joined by Lions' club members from various towns, including Liskeard, Bodmin, Roche, Newquay, Truro, Penzance and Hayle at various points throughout the journey, as Andy is president of the Lions' Club of Callington. Along the trek the trio were invited to attend a ladies gig race in Newquay, an interview with Radio Cornwall and a bucket collection at Truro's Lemon Quay. Andy said: 'Day six began from the Richard Lander monument at the top of Truro which was sculpted by our ancestor Neville Northey Burnard and a moment was taken in his memory as well as some photos at this prominent point with the book about the sculptor by our local artist Mary Martin. 'The day finished in Camborne with a quiz in the evening with the Penzance Lions' Club where our new support driver took over from Mc Salvors Crane Hire. They also, as a company, presented us with a cheque for £200 for the CHSW fund.' The team also received a cheque for £200 from the Penzance Lions' Club. On the eighth day the trio walked into Land's End, greeted by a welcome party, a pasty and some champagne. The Burnards expressed thanks to everyone for their support. The final cheque will be presented to representatives of Little Harbour at the Callington Lions' charter dinner in November and is expected to be in excess of £5,000.
